Pond

The waterfall sends water into the top pool. When the top pool fills up it drains into the lower pool, sending water under an oak bridge.

Friedrich, the western toad, is sunning himself on a stone among the watercress which grows well by running water.

The bloom of the Chawan Basu lotus is a reward for a summer with above average temperature. Drops of water bead up on its leaves like pearls.

The name of this iris is Butterflies-are-free. Year after year, it graces the pond with its spectacular blooms.

This dragonfly is taking a rest on a stalk of a pickerel flower. This must be his romantic bistro because we often see him bring his date here on hot summer days.

The jade plant is the favorite perch for the lesser goldfinch. He likes to "drink on the fly" from the water that is coming down from the waterfall.

The Star of Siam is a tropical water lily. It gets the "star" in its name by showing off unusual white stamens on a backdrop of purple petals.

We named the pond Celestial Melodies because of the magical sound of the waterfall. David built the pond from scratch. It attracts a variety of wildlife.
